Different Fuel Prices

Maybe the question is what states post the commercial truck tax exempt price and then by law have to charge non-commercial diesel fuel purchasers the tax. In Oregon it was 30 cents per gallon more. I think Indiana and Oregon are like that.
Found this other post: Just a heads up to those of you who have never traveled to Indiana and several other states who post deceptive fuel prices. In Indiana you will see the fuel price on the signs in big numbers and then under them you see tax exempt in very small letters. Example: $3.89 tax exempt and then when you pull to the diesel pump it is $4.10 with the tax. Most all other states post the tax added price. Just a heads up to you who will be traveling to the International Rally in Goshen.

I've got the frequent fueler card - its free. fwiw whenever I've tried to use a credit card OR my frequent fueler card in the truck lanes it's been rejected...but accepted INSIDE (see PIA).

WE feel we should be able to use any card at the TRUCK island pumps and receive the cash price....BECAUSE thats whats permitted at the RV lane, try it some time.

I get that the truck pumps have faster gal/min rate but the trucks have larger tanks (300g +) & generally end up blocking the lanes while they get their receipts etc, rarely are the RV lanes blocked because someone had to go get a receipt or needs to settle their corp account.

To answer the OP's question....it's all about TAXES....in Arizona diesel fuel is taxed at two tiers. One for light vehicles, 18 cents/gal and one for heavies, 28 cents/gal. Here's the breakdown and info from the State of Arizona...


Fuel-Tax Rates in Arizona

The Arizona tax on gasoline (motor vehicle fuel) is 18¢ per gallon. Use fuel (diesel) is taxed at two rates in Arizona.

If the use fuel is used in the propulsion of a use class motor vehicle on a highway in this state, the tax rate is 26¢ for each gallon.
A "use class motor vehicle" means a motor vehicle that uses use fuel on a highway in this state and that is a road tractor, truck tractor, truck or passenger carrying vehicle having a declared gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds or having more than two axles.
If the use fuel is used in the propulsion of a light class motor vehicle (such as a pickup truck) or an exempt vehicle (certain school buses, government and non-profit vehicles, see 28-5432.C) on a highway in this state, the use fuel is taxed at the same rate per gallon as the motor vehicle fuel tax (18¢ per gallon). (See 28-5601, 5605, 5606.)


If you plan to fill up using the truck lanes, make sure you tell them you're an RV or you'll end up paying the extra tax.....Dennis

i provided no mis-information ! I responded to the OP's question & statement...prices are different at the TRUCK lanes vs the Car/RV lanes.

you have neglected to state that you pay to for that "8 cents" off "privilege" by elevating your good sam membership (which is hardly free).

I have a FREE RV card from flying J that gets me 3 or 4 cents off - so the reality is you're only obtaining an additional 5 or 6 cents off...and you're having to pay for that (via your good sam club level).

i don't need another credit card & I certainly don't need a Flying J card...we already have enough cc, with better incentives, much less some prepaid credit card like some of the flying J ones that are offered.

IMO (and apparently the OP's) we should be able to swipe any card we want at the TRUCK ISLAND and receive the CASH price - no different than we already do at the RV island !
