All the people talking about the benefits if the coach breaks down makes sense but leaves me questioning how often they break down!?
we've NEVER broken down (jeezus lots of knocking on wood here now)....BUT all it takes is once....but then we maintain the******outta our coach....doesnt make us immune to breakdowns though.
personally if its something i can fix - then I'm gonna go run for the parts - rather than wait hours for road side assistance NOT to fix it.
I've MINOR issues....at campgrounds.... (GFCI) outlet that failed and prevented me from running our outdoor/basement cooler....a quick trip into town & i had a replacement, if i were camping w/out a toad or rental i'd be either begging a ride or ignoring the repair.
Ive helped other campers who had problems (melted their already heavily worn) 30a plug....a quick trip into town for a replacement was all it took to remedy the situation.
i DONT want the wife / kids / passengers / dog sitting in the coach on the shoulder of some interstate w/ a target on their backs....sitting on the shoulder....waiting for something to run in to them....ill put them in the toad, get them outta there or we'll go get the part to make the repair myself.
we did the rental car thing too - i have tons of free points / rentals....but its a pain...picking up / dropping off etc (delivery of a rental isn't always an option & you're at the mercy of someone else schedule).
