Not looking to hijack this thread but NO you are most certainly NOT supposed to "set the latch" on a fuel pump and go do something else. I believe there is even a law on the books that says one needs to tend to their gas pump.
Back in the day, gas jockeys set the latches while attending to your car's other needs. Was that against the law?
