Do you cover your RV?

Do you cover your RV when in storage? If so, which is the better cover, with in reason, and is it really a pain to install? We have a Phoenix Cruiser 2100 (B+) and store it in a public storage facility. Not much room between vehicles for ladders an such and I'm not very good with them (ladders) anyway if I could get one there and back home again.
What are the pro's and con's?

thanks

  • First coach waxed yearly and left under covered. After 9 years it looked good except for non aluminum trim and decals.
Latest coach waxed yearly and covered for about 6 months a year. After 4 years trim and decals look new.
I will put up with the cover hassles for the results I have seen.
  • Some materials can survive harsh UV rays and severe weather, others not so much. 20-30 year warranty is useless if the trim, fasteners, or sealant fail before that. Which they will.

I began covering my trailer with an Anco cover, and will continue to do so.

For 6 months of the year, why leave it exposed to the elements if I have a choice?

And uncovering the unit in Spring, results in the same clean unit I left in Fall. No junk piled on. No sap. No dirt. No bird poop. Nothing.

The down side is that you have to climb on the roof. I do it myself and it takes about 30-45 minutes all said and done. But its risky being up there moving all around with tripping hazards all around.

So, is it really worth it? Only you can decide.

These types of comparisons just don't make sense to me. My house is made of a completely different type of material. Overhangs are different. Slopes are different. Vents are different.

EPDM roofs have been used on commercial buildings for years an some have a 30 year warranty. The shingles on my house have a 30 year warranty, some not so good.
The comparison makes sense to me.

My thoughts are that weather affects the life of my RV roof system. I cover mine each winter, since it is just sitting there, with a tarp and strap it down underneath. Less chance of water finding it's way in, and less sun to break things down, JMHO.
  • Year after year will cause it to weather, side will fade graphics will start to peel. My fix is I bought a metal cover to keep the sun off it when it is not in use. Some one will chime in with the cloth cover.
  • It wasn't covered at the factory and it wasn't covered at the dealer so we never covered ours. We don't cover our house ether. I think the roof of both are made to be outside.
  • I did that one year.
The wind made the cover move enough that it had about 10 holes rubbed in it after about 3 months.
I won't be doing that again.

Now I just take it to the semi-truck wash place down the road each spring.
