As an owner of an RV rental business perhaps I can shed some light. First and foremost you need to separate yourself from liability. We run an LLC and purchase coaches under that. Never comingle personal assets and liabilities with your business ones. Second you need commercial RV rental insurance. Pretty much the only game in town is MBA and as others have stated, it's not cheap. It's rated on value of the coach, so a $100k coach will cost you about $600-800 a month in insurance. Usually this alone is enough of a hindrance to people from renting their own motor home. But you cannot operate without it. Your personal insurance will not cover damage from a rental nor will it cover a liability if the driver kills someone. You don't want that risk. Then there are mandatory forms, paperwork, walkthroughs etc. And no matter what your rosy colored glasses tell you, it will get messed up. Might be a tear here, a piece of molding there or ripping off the entire awning, things will assuredly happen. MH rentals is a business and should not be taken lightly with respect to your own coach. We have our own personal coach. I would NEVER rent it out. The others are rentals and I do my best not to be attached to them. They are nice, don't get me wrong, but I would cringe at renting my own MH.
