I'm retired Over the Road (OTR) Truckdriver and I would always shut off my Peterbuilt when fueling unless I was having trouble starting the Cat motor which was very rare. In my 44+ years around diesels, diesel fuel is very hard to ignite unless your in hi heat conditions. I put a match out in diesel fuel trying to start a fire out in the woods. The match would extinguish before and I could get the diesel fuel ignited. I drove up on a overturned Semi and the battery was arcing, diesel fuel got on the battery and the truck burned down to the frame rails. IMHO truckers not turning there rigs off when fueling is laziness, unless it's in very cold harsh weather.
