Diesel is not going to flash or explode. Manual says to idle five minutes and if operated like going up hills to idle longer.
This lets the turbocharger and its bearings cool down.
The new engines give very little to no fumes.
A gas engine doesn't give sparks from the exhaust.
Cutting the engine off does nothing for static charge accumulated on a vehicle either and does not increase risk of any fire.
The gas tank is not on the engine. Surely no one is going to crawl underneath and spray fuel on the cats.
When you fill up turn off the gas engine has always been routine, for us except if it is ten degrees or raining cats and dogs and one is still inside.
Before you fill the tank if it is real dry and there is a charge on the vehicle or any time touch the vehicle and the pump or something at the same time. You might get a little shock.I don't recall one
