Dodge 440 ,miss firing

Although this may not be the problem make sure you replace the ballast resistor. They go bad often. Many owners replace the whole distributor with an aftermarket HEI system. I bet your plug wires are shot. Unless you have some fancy wires the underhood heat kills the wires.

Wildmanbaker may have something. Have you located any fuel filters? It could clog up and engine dies due to lack of fuel.

First, an isolator that is shorting out, can cause the engine to miss, or die completely, because it can short all power from the ignition system. Most performance problems are electrical. If you do not have a VOM, you should get one. If you know diesels, then working on a gas is not too much different. Instead of the heat of compression igniting the fuel, a spark is required in a gas engine, that is the purpose of an ignition system. If carb is empty after running, check all the rubber connections between the tank and the fuel pump. These develop cracks and leak air in, stopping the fuel flow. You are getting some pretty good advice, maybe just starting over, and verifying everything is working as it should, before moving to the next phase, including the isolator block. Then start on the fuel system. I would recommend filling the carb through the overflow vent tubes, with a turkey baster filled with fuel. If it then runs until it is out of fuel, start checking the fuel line from carb to the fuel tank. This is mundane but must be done to find the actual problem(s).

The rig you are talking about was my Holiday Rambler and had to sell it. THis one a friend gave me as I installed an extrusion machine, vacuum tank and other stuff plus installed a 480v 600 amp service for it, so as a bonus he gave me this Avco. Which to me is better built than the Holiday Rambler. and everything works in it but the engine and generator. I know it is something simple. so simple that it eludes me.

I believe your rig has a mechanical fuel pump up front. There maybe an electric in the tank. It could loose power and cause strain on the mechanical pump but ,should not shut the engine down.

Is this the same rig you bought a year or so ago and didn't know if it would make the trip home?

I jiggled that wire harness that houses the ignition coil wires and all the other wires that come from the ignition module, the engine starts to stall. only at times. It stalled and there was no fuel in the carb. Is there an electronic fuel shut off?? See on my buses the Detroits shut down by shutting off the fuel. I am used to that. but on 440 dodge engines,, not sure. I assume from the ignition but I know a lot less about gasoline engines of that era than diesels. I wish I could install a diesel in this. anyone want to trade for a 440??

I doubt that the isolator has anything to do with rig not running. It is used to charge the house battery from the alternator.
The ignition module in my old grey matter was issues even when they were new rigs. Cause was not getting good ground tied to the engine. Mounted on the body with the braided ground wires removed from the body to engine caused problems. Older rigs have had the ground strap between engine and body removed or just corroded away.

YES!!!!! I noticed that ignition module and it is hanging by one screw and the white resistor was replaced as I see an old one laying on the floor. I now know what the isolator is and yes it is mounted to a wall in front of the right front tire. Maybe the fact that the ignition module is hanging by one screw is making it stall? Someone was into this before i got it and it is a mess. there is a green wire that is unhooked.

Have you checked for power through the "ballast" resistor? White block adjacent to the ignition module.
