Alright we made it back to texas!
It was a two-day trip averaging about 4-5 hours on the road each day and the engine ran like a top. I think the fact that a 35+ year old vehicle making it 500 miles without a hiccup is amazing! let alone buying it off craigslist and it making the journey.
I got some more details about the rigs history. I am the 4th owner and turns out there is several stacks of folders with tons of reciepts of whats been replaced/fixed spanning back to the orginal purchase in 1981. I am still digging through it. But the Odometer reads 38,000 miles and it sounds legit after reading some of the service records that state mileage history (only 27k on a service reciept from 2003) I think this is a diamond in the rough.
The transmission was rebuilt/replaced in 2007
new transfer case installed with it.
The 4x4 installation was done by advanced four wheel drive systems in salt lake city utah in fall of 1990 according to a stamp in the door well.
I can not find the chassis model info anywhere. The VIN matches only with the RV manufacturer. I am trying to figure out whether it is a M300, m400, MB400 ect Because I will need to be sorting out the front suspension first.
The steering/suspension has a bad death wobble if you are going 20mph and hit a pothole, but if you are going faster than that no wobbles. Im figuring it could be some worn out bushings? The steering has a lot of play in it so perhaps that could be part of the slop in the system.
