We use VERIZON and find it to be the best coverage provider for all those way back places.
In my working years we had to go to all kinds of way back place all over the country. The CELL PROVIDER of choice was always VERIZON...
If you get cell phone service have at it... I would caution however using the cell phones close to the SOUTHWEST borders... If your cell phones trips up cell tower across the border you may get zinged big time with roaming fees... We turn our cell phones OFF when close to the US SOUTHWEST borders... Never been to the North borders so don't have first hand info on those...
