Fortunately there weren't any nay-sayers around when my fridge in an old TC wasn't cooling. I figured it was worth a try, and since I would have had a hard time coming up with the financial means to do anything else, I tried it. I spend a couple of days rolling it around the front yard, flipping it, and putting bandaids on it :W
When I put it back in it worked fine, and continued to work fine until I sold the camper several years later. Things aren't always absolute. Some things just can't be known until they're tried.
But, I would certainly understand if the OP said "I don't have time for this garbage" and just replaced it. Today, that's probably what I'd do too.
