domestic fridge

Hope this is the correct site. I"m thinking about putting in a domestic fridge. I thought all that was required was take out the old and put in the new. Now a tech says we have to think about a larger invertor, more batteries (where do I put them, the tray is full), closing the gas line, etc.
Is this correct or a tech wanting coins?
HELP!!
  • If you camp with full hookups, you will be just fine, BUT! if you for some reason have to dry camp, most coaches with the residential fridge have three extra batteries to supply that extra power. You can install solar panels if you do not have the room for the three extra batteries. But the tech was telling you the truth. Most coaches also require a Pure Sine inverter.
  • "tandkj"......Here is a link to what it takes to replace your refer with a Samsung. Samsung RF197

I've done two now. If you have a cabinet above or below the refer now, the job is fairly straight forward. Some of the tough stuff is getting the old refer out and the new one in. If you have any specific questions or want more info, you can PM me.
  • Best decision you can make. We have had both a Dontgetcoldmetic and most recently a NoCold in our current RV. I pulled the Nocold out and replaced it with a Haier purchased at Lowes that fit perfectly in the old fridge spot. We were not looking for a fridge with all the bells and whistles just one that keeps your food cold and has a freezer where ice cream actually stays cold.

The hardest part of tearing out the Nocold since it was firmly in place with glue and foam. New fridge came through the door with the fridge doors taken off easy peasy

Saved myself a pile of money doing it myself rather than having a dealership do it. Just remember, measure once, twice, and then measure again to make sure.

Some of what he is telling you is "Scare tatics"

Closing the gas line.. You go to the hardware store, You tell them the size of the connector, The man hands you a brass plug.. And you replace the Fridge with the plug, it is that simple.. No harder than re-connecting it.

OR, for added safety, you trace the line back to the manifold and remove it and use the matching plug there (Will be a different plug)..

Question: How far do you drive between power outlets (or generator runs). A residential fridge, with the door locked closed is good for at least eight hours (that is about 400 miles) so long as you have power every time you park, Either home made or commercial, you need not use an inverter.

HOWEVER many places you dont' want the genny running all night long.

Also, how much inverter and battery do you have.. A Residential fridge may need 1,000 or more to kick start it, far less running, and I'd want at least 3 or 4 pair of GC-2, And the biggest converter I can get as well (like 150 amps).

Also.. Find out what the starting power of the fridge is... If it is low enough than a Honda EU-1000i or a Yahama EF-1200i (neither of which product that much power save for a very brief amount of time) may be able to start it, (If they can start it they can run it no problem) and there are dang few places I'd not be afraid to run one of those at night. You need to do a bit of odd wiring to use one of those but I can describe how to do it if you wish.
