5 button is 12 volt powered and is powered by the Zone 1 AC control board. Very rare for a CCC tstat to just go dead or have low display lighting. Odds are the Communication cable from the Tstat to the front AC has corroded ends, and odds are it is at the AC unit where the COM cable connects. The COM cable looks like a standard Telephone 4 wire cable, but is wired backwards from a telephone cable. You do not state how old the system is or what model roof AC you have. Can you get that.
