Most of my camping is in wide open fields with nothing to block the wind. I dont trust any camper mounted awning, too many 3am roll-ups for me! I use popups or beach umbrella for shade. You can put your shade anywhere you please.
Having said this, I do have a Fiamma awning on my MH. It is very nice. Works well and doesnt have the uprights down the side of the rig. Because it is enclosed the fabric isnt exposed to weather and stays looking nice. Whatever awning you get, make sure the installer screws the mounting points into the wall frame ( mine was not!)
