Dometic Awning

On my 2013 26he Sunstar the patio awning motor doesn't work. The motor just clicks if I try moving it in or out. Right now I rolled it in manually. Just wondering if it is a big job replacing the motor, I heard the motors are expensive, so I might be looking at a rebuild. Any information would be helpful. Dometic sites are not exactly giving up the trade secrets!

  • Thank-you Sir. Now all I have to do is purchase a motor to fit and I think I'm in business. Glad to receive positive and quick feedback. Thanks again.
  • Retail the motors are $300. You can find them cheaper on line. An RV dealer quoted me two hours for two men to change the motor. I had a mobile tech change it in 30 minutes by himself. After watching him, I could change it myself now. First he used zip ties to tie the non motor side arms together so the awning would not unroll. He then forced the awning to unwind about 1/2 a turn. He then took out the bolt on the arm holding the roller to the arm on the motor side. Lift the roller up so it comes loose from the arm. Drill out the rivets holding the end of the cap on the end of the roller. Pull out the motor, unplug the wire, plug in the new motor, and reverse everything. You will need pop rivets reinstall the end cap. You will possibility need two ladders. One to hold the roller up and another to stand on.
