I wouldn't worry about it being an "old refer". It's just a box with insulation. The cooling unit, that you replaced is the refrigeration. You could almost take a cardboard box, add some insulation and shelves to a new cooling unit and have the same thing. I know there's a little more to them, but not a lot.
