Dometic Freezer door gaskets?

I have an original Dometic side by side refrig - freezer in my 1998 Winnebago Grand Vectra. Refrigerator side temps are plenty cold enough. On the coldest of the five settings it will freeze soft drinks. The middle setting is good for the refrig side.

But the freezer only gets down to about 15 degrees at best at temps that are very good on the refrig side. I am assuming this unit should get the freezer side down to zero F, like in a home freezer? it will make ice, but will not keep ice cream hard, etc. The gaskets on the freezer door do not seem bad and will put some grip on slips of paper if I shut the door and pull on them, but I'm not sure if that is a good test of gasket quality.

Anyone have similar symptoms and replace door gaskets? Did it solve your problem?

Other ideas?

  • I have had great success increasing the door seal of a 15 year old refer using a light application of Petroleum Jelly.

Application cost of about 1 cent and 1 minute of my time.
  • At the BOTTOM back wall inside the freezer. Make sure the DRAIN plug is installed. That is a hole that goes straight to the outside and will allow hot air up in the freezer. Dometic supplied a plastic plug but you can use a cork type material if your plug is gone. Your gasket test is valid and shows the gaskets are OK. Doug
  • I went to home depot and was able to find a seal that would work on my demetic.
  • your local RV dealer can probably order the aftermarket gasket kit for you...mine did.......installing it was not hard, removing the old was a PITA.
  • I had a Dometic person tell me the same thing. "Only buy the whole door". Well I found a site that offers a gasket for my Dometic two door refrig. Mine may not the same as yours. If I find the link I'll put it on this thread. Keep searching and maybe you will find what you're looking for.
  • My fridge door gasket split and the bad news is that Dometic does not sell gaskets as separate parts....you have to buy the whole door to replace the gasket.
