Don't know what happened but it's bad

My first reaction is the cruise control was engaged and the driver could not or did not disengage it. To travel the distance from the freeway the vehicle had to be under power.
Would be interested to know if the vehicle had a steering dampened, (Safe-T-Plus) or similar unit installed?
Very sad event, and prayers are with the families.
