Are you sure you've found legitimate ads for DP's in the 98 to 01 range that are in the $30k range? There are a lot of scams out there and people will post ads with what looks like super good deals in order to catch more suckers. These usually involve the old send us a good faith deposit and we'll hold it for you deal.
You may be correct about this as I have done zero looking at used DP's lately, but those prices seem too low for what you are describing, unless they are wrecked units, or rat infested, or have some other serious issues.
But back to your original question, if in fact you are finding DP's in good condition in that price range, then yes, I'd take a $30k DP over a $20k gas rig any day.
