Big Katuna.....Amish unit self install, $1100.00. Residential refer, self install $1300.00. Resale value MUCH higher with residential unit, especially a large coach with a four door Norcold.
I installed one in my 2005 Diplomat....greatest thing I ever did. New coach has an even larger one. We boon docked in both coaches. Typically takes about two hours of generator running to bring batteries back up.
If you're handy, you can install the Amish unit yourself or the residential. If you're going to sell the coach in the next year or less, go Amish. Keep in mind though, several of the Amish repairs have gone south.
Many, who don't have a residential unit will malign them, but yet to see someone complain about the residential unit.
Funny post. Read your last sentence again. Replacing Residential with Absorbsion, people like you say exactly that. People like you constantly malign Absorbsion refers. Like this post, the OP just asked about replacement and you and others jump on the BASH Absorbsion bandwagon. From a service end(me), I see the problems with residentials and the delay and time it takes to get one serviced, either warranty or out of warranty. The MINIMUM time it usually takes to repair a residential is 2 weeks. That is because, IF the refer has to be pulled, the Residential repair companies DO NOT pull them out of the cabinet and will NOT work on them unless pulled. That means you either pull it or pay us to pull it. MOST RV'ers are not in a position to pull refers. Yes, I would have a residential if the RV was capable of powering it and had the space for it. I have seen my share of residential failures and they in percentage of the market IMO are higher than absorbsion failures. Doug
