We usually run the house air. I don't think it costs that much more and it's worth it.
For gasoline engines, I'm thinking that dash air might cut mileage by as much as 1/8 to 1/4 mpg and the gen set with a load uses about 3/4 to one gallon per hour, so unless I'm way off, it might just be as economical if not more so, to just run the gen sets. Now there's no way that you can run your dash air for free, if that's what some are thinking. Now you pull over for lunch or dinner and might be using the microwave, so besides the overall comfort for your passengers, are you starting and stopping the gen periodically all day long? I like afternoon hot tea in my cup while driving and it's much easier for DW to heat water in the MW. Naturally if it's not hot to begin with, then we're not running the generator all day long, just for the other conveniences and to save a little propane.
