The Trav'ler type antenna (open face) is the only antenna that will allow you to receive the DirecTV HD programming. If you are not concerned about HD then any of the newer roof mounted dome or portable unit do an excellent job or receiving the DirecTV signal. For a low cost portable antenna I like the Winegard Anser but it's pretty big. That's because it has a big antenna as well and can get you a very strong signal strength. This is semi-automatic and requires you to do a couple minutes worth of work to get locked on. There is a new "tiny" fully automatic antenna on the horizon and I would suggest that you wait for it if you want fully automatic and something you can store away and set out when you are at your site.
You can find the info here. http://www.winegard.com/carryout/ It's only 14.3" wide and 13.5" high.
