Duel 30amp Yadapter

Is there such an item as a Y adapter that would split a 30 amp receptacle into two separate services? At a campground that I frequent there is only one thirty amp outlet but there is always two of us there. One of us usually plugs to the thirty amp and the other to 120v but it does get to be a problem especially in the heat of summer.

Uh, 30 amp is 120 volt.. So is the 15/20 amp outlet

IF there is a 50 amp I know there is a 30+30 to Fifty (That is two 30 amp female outlets one 50 amp plug)

I believe there is a 30-30 to 30 one too.

    And Here it is
  • Thanks for the help. What everyone says makes sense. It is two spaces just that the power for one was removed some time back. Guess we will tell the owner we need it back or we'll have to go elsewhere. Thanks again
  • Some very correct answers.

You are better off with one of you on the 30 and the other on the 20 or even 15.

Were you to Y off the 30, the TOTAL the two trailers can pull (does NOT have to be equal) is just shy of 30 amps. Yes, if you both run equal loads it would be 15 plus 15.

But, if each of you are running a roof A/C and either of you decides to use the microwave for some popcorn, you will trip the breaker.

I'm surprised that the camp ground will allow two trailers to park at one camp site...

We camp alot where tent sites are mixed in with electric sites and we sometime rent a tent site next to our trailer electric site. Then we run a 15AMP Extension cord over to the tent for the grandkids...
  • You will be resetting the 30 amp post breaker continually if you try to run two trailers off one 30 amp outlet.

Why would splitting a 30 between the two of you, provide more than one 30 and one 20amp (what you're calling 120vac and the whole thing is 120vac). I mean 30 + 20 = 50 and a lot more than just the 30. Sure, one of you will be short changed in comparison with the other, but still better than maybe being left with next to zero, when your neighbor really cranks things up and not very hard to do in the heat of summer.
  • you could make one yourself but as stated above you will both then only get 15 amps each.
  • What you are suggesting will effectively provide 15amps to each unit. I sure hope you don't plan on running two AC units!!
To answer your original question though, I have never seen such a 2-way splitter but one could easily be made from parts at Home Depot, Lowes or similar.
  • if you both operate on the same 30 amp outlet, you will quickly exceed the capacity. using the 30 and the 20 if on a different circuit is preferable.
