My understanding is that the new AC units work as is with the new digital thermostat. To use your 5 button therm. you have to change the control board (100 bucks) If you do that when your other AC fails you would need another control board. (100 bucks). Or when the other AC fails buy the new digital thermostat to control both AC, put the new style control back in your converted new AC and resell your conversion control board to the next guy who has this problem. Or bite bullet and replace both now. Good luck, Dave
