Our (ATWOOD gas/electric), the 120 is a "household" switch with a red light (in the kitchen area) telling me it's "on". The propane switch is part of the "monitor" (tanks,etc) and THAT has a little red light when active.
I find the electric heats a bit faster than gas, but both heat well. You can use both to heat the water faster if you want.
Call your dealer or go there! Have him show you what he was supposed to show you (walkaround) when you took delivery.
