I do not live with awning paranoia but as 1 poster mentioned the powered awnings do not seem to have as good of supporting hardware as the old manual ones. In my area we don't have normally heavy winds every day like some places but we do get sudden thunderstorms with gusty winds that require me to take action. Heck, I left mine out during a Tropical Storm once in the Keys and had to go out at 2 am to save it. It was a comical scene I am certain for my camping neighbors. I would not tie it down because sometimes you need to get it in fast in heavy winds. No awning, tied down or not, is safe in heavy winds.
