Worried about surges, voltage, polarity, etc. I purchased a Electrical management system from camping world. I'm also concerned about theft of this unit so what I would like to do is put it inside my locked electrical bay, run a cord to the post, and then plug my coiled cord to the out of sight protector. My owners manual says I should not use an extension cord with my coach cord. Any thoughts on hooking up this way?
Even though our coach is a 50A, the procedure will be the same for adding a heavy duty extension cord purchased from Camping World when they were on sale. Plug the oem cord into the portable surge protector and leave both the oem cord/surge protector connected in the locking compartment. Connect the 30A rated extension cord into the other end of the surge protector and run the cord to the power pedestal. It will be long enough 99.9% of the time. Here is a link to buying the 30A extension from CW. Keeps from complicating a simple process.:C I wouldn't be cutting any cord as it is unnecessary. The Kill-A-Watt and receptacle tester are also good items to keep on hand. We always have a Kill-A-Watt plugged into one of our kitchen plugs to constantly monitor incoming voltage.
