Entry Door Window Removal

My entry door window is fogged and I need to remove it to repair. Anybody removed theirs? I was about to start removing it but I thought I'd ask here before I broke it. It looks like there could be a couple of ways to remove it - remove the insulated glass only or remove the frame and disassemble it on the bench.

I was quoted $625 for new glass so I thought It was worth a try to repair it. I just got through repairing one of the bedroom swing-out windows that was fogged and it turned out pretty well.

Thanks for any advise

Ron

IAMICHABOD the window in question is larger & insulated so your solution wouldn't work unfortunately.

    Thanks again

OPPS my bad, I should have enlarged your signature picture to see that it was the BIG DOOR not that small window behind it :S

2ndhom: Just drove through there on the way home from CA.

The window I repaired was etched badly but it is tinted. I polished the******out of it with a buffer and you can hardly tell - although like I said it is darkly tinted. That's why I'm going to try repairing it. (stubborn I guess). The entry door window is clear so it might not work out as well but I won't be out any $'s.

Not sure if you get down to Springfield, Oregon but I had mine replaced at I-5 Glass on Marcola Road. I removed the frame and took the whole thing to them. The glass was too etched inside to keep.
  • I bought the kit from a business in Oregon. I have repaired one window already but it was easy to remove. I just need to know how to get the window out of the door.

It was somewhat of a "pain"to separate the panes (pun intended) and clean the etching but it was worth it to me. More in terms of learning something than saving money. The quote of $625 I received was from a Winnebago dealer I have gotten parts from in the past. It may have included the frame but after the quote I decided to do it myself. I already have the parts so I'm not out anything. I can also get the glass made up locally for about $300 if I break it!

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  • Depending on where you are now, I'd go to the RV Fog Doctor in Searcy, AR and let them fix it. I don't know the price for an entry door window, but the passenger window was $200, unless it was etched like mine then it was $300 for an additional piece of glass. The driver's window was repaired last month for $300, he said it is usually $400 but I caught it early so it wasn't bad.

I heard there is a guy from Oregon or Washington who repairs them in his coach in the summer and then at Quartzite in the winter.

There are some things I might DIY but working with glass is not one of them.
