Not sure how to answer each individual so I'll just include it in one answer. Yes, I do know how to check the oil, I do have AAA for the RV and extra warranty and road assistance when I bought the RV. I had bought the 5w 30 oil for my generator. I have a generator for my house and know you have to check the oil on a regular basis. I think I'll buy a case from Walmart :) Thanks about labeling the check time for oil and the height. For the life of me I can't find out the true clearance of my rig. My son-in-law thinks it's about 14'. But on the way back home last night around midnight (Ugh!) between potholes and all, there was a sign for clearance of 14'. A huge tractor trailer in front of me cleared it so I figured I was safe. Very proud of myself because I googled the George Washington bridge in NYC and found out if you carry propane you can only drive on the top level of the bridge. Baby steps! Thanks rjxj for all your help!
chances are you have the same genny as me ....4K Onan...break out your gen. manual and double check your oil requirements...
cold weather 15w40 hot weather "Straight" 30 weight...4000 watt Onan
has a "splash" oiling system..no oil filter..just air filter
plus air cooled engines "generally" require a thicker oil
"if" you have the 5.5 Onan then you have an oil filter and an oil pump but the oil viscosity requirements are the same.
I missed the part of what brand chassis you have...Chevy,ford
you should have lots of manuals...some of the material is so generic it can be aggravating but..there are very important things to know.
Oil viscosity is one...
An important note: make sure that (when dealing with AAA even with RV premier membership) you have a good spare... they will not bring you a tire...I found that out.
your other option is Coach-net or Good Sam..
My Tioga ranger 25G class C is right at 12 feet High clearance
Getting in the habit of checking your oil when on the road at the beginning of the day when engine is cold before starting on level ground...at the campsite...
Interstate clearances won't be the problem..That is uniform set by Feds.
Towns with old railroad overpasses..especially when they curve down on both sides..go under in the middle...Less than 12 feet TURN-AROUND
older gas station overheads...some are too low...
I drove a bus in Atlanta for almost 30 years..overpasses and drunks were my problem!!
If you have a slide:
Now is the time to find out how to manually get it in rather than on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of no where.
Write it down...step by step and you will have it until you sell it.
hoping you never have to use...each model has different procedures.
good luck..emmitt
