One trick I learned years ago is to make sure that the rig is fully warmed up before going to the DEQ. If you're only a few miles from the testing station, sometimes you're not as warm as you need to be, especially, if it's been a cool night.
AND unplug the PCV valve from the valve cover, after you pass the test reinstall it.
