Thanks for all the pics and advice. Lots going on with repairs now! Tune up is finished. New muffler going in now. 4 new Rancho 5000 shocks going in soon. New smog air pump going in soon. The original one was seized long ago and just not used. We think that's partly why the engine ran pretty rough and emitted lots of fumes.
I found an 8 foot piece of white plastic "lattice connector" at Lowes that I thought would work perfectly to hold the two pieces of ceiling together. The original plastic trim had broken in places and was allowing the ceiling panels to sag badly.
The lattice connector looks like a capital "H" when you view it from the end. The edges of each ceiling panel slide into each side of the "H" and then the "H" is screwed to the wood in the ceiling. It worked perfectly! The is tough to do alone. Lots of fiddling and fitting all overhead.
Before. The cushions were literally holding the panels up.
AFTER. Like new and looks great. I need to get some of those brass screws and brass cup washers. They'll replace the drywall screws I used temporarily.
