Oh, by the way, don't forget to replace your bypass hose on the water pump (if you have one). That is the most aggravating hose to get to and usually the one to blow on the road.
is that the short, fat hose in the shape of an L that's wedged vertically between the T-stat housing and something else? I saw that and thought I should replace it but...what a pain it would be to remove! The top hose clamp screw is facing toward the bottom and I have no idea how anyone could even get at it. :h
Yep, that's the little stinker. I've seen them where it's just easier to remove the water pump to replace them. It's been a while since I've worked on a small block Ford so I'm trying to remember exactly how it looks. If you do pull the water pump, I'd put a new one back on. No sense doing that nightmare more than you have to.
I suspect you won't need to pull the pump. You can sometimes fold it almost double and put the new hose on. You may have ti break the old clamps and unscrew the new ones completely, wrap them around and then reassemble them. When you put your new hoses on, work up a good mouthful of spit. It sounds gross but saliva is a good lubricant on the inside of a hose. Just spit in the end, wipe it around with your finger and it should go on fairly easy. When you get done, you'll know why so many mechanics tend to be a bit grumpy. :D
