Ain't that the truth... :( What the manufacturers do is select a part that they _know_ dam' well is gonna need replacement sometime in the vehicle's life, probably more than once. Then they hang that part from the ceiling, and build the vehicle around it.

Actually, new vehicles are designed to be quick and cheap to manufacture. It's called M.F.C.I. "Manufacturing For Continuous Improvement". In the late 70's, it became clear that FWD cars would be cheaper and faster to build. Price wasn't cut so profits went up. Our B's are modified to be comfortable campers, but they are based on a production vehicle. fuel injection fuel pumps are my particular gripe. With one exception, every electric fuel pump I've put in a late model car was in the tank which had to be drained and dropped. I gave my niece a Mitsubishi Eclipse and the pump was accessed through the floor under the rear seat.
