Serpentine belts didn't really become common until around 1990. As models got phased out and replaced by newer ones, the serpentine belts came into use. Keep an eye on the clamps as they can loosen a bit as they seat in with heat and cool cycles. Both types of belts have their good ppoints. Individual belts don't leave you stranded if one breaks. The serpentine belts are a whole lot easier to service, as long as you have a map on their routing.
