Not sure where you got that impression but you could not be more off base. My 1988 coach is welcomed with open arms. Is your motorhome older than that? If so, you will also me welcomed with open arms. That's how it is now and how it has always been. However, going forward the FMCA change from MH only to "any dang RV" if going to dilute the value of the club.
Unless you are really old, there is no particular benefit that would make anyone want to join FMCA and NOT Good Sam. We already know that if you travel on a regular basis you MUST have a Good Sam membership for the 10% camping savings but if you also have to pay for FMCA you should get something. The question here is what, exactly, do I get from my FMCA membership? Previously, it was the magazine and forums dedicated to owners of motor homes (Motor Coaches). After this vote passes it is difficult to see where being a member of FMCA would have any value to anyone who was already a Good Sam member.
