Linda, is the "frame" (by that I mean the vertical edge that the FF's lid seals down against) made of metal or plastic? I didn't use your brand of cover, but used MaXXair. For that cover, there were angled aluminum brackets. Short edge screwed to the vertical edge leaving the long edge right down against the roof. Cover attached there.
Our "frames" on the two FF's are plastic. I went to the trouble of dismantling the fans to get the stainless nuts and washers they furnished for stainless mounting machine screws into place. I would never do that again. For the bathroom vent where the frame was thin sheet metal, yes. For FF's, no. I'd use Sheet Metal screws.
Let me try to find the instructions for your covers. Or if you can, post a link. I'll be away for a couple hours...
