According to the Ford manual, it may be the audible warning for over temp of the coolant.
There are THREE stages of warnings:
1) when the temperature gauge moves near HOT there is a single chime
2) multiple chimes and the engine moves to limited power to cool the engine
3) multiple chimes and the engine will shut down when the engine gets too hot.
