I have driven the Texas coast for years. Bad sight put an end to that. A must stay for you would be SandDollar Resort in Fulton Texas.
1 hour by car to Corpus
Reasonable rates Genuine friendly staff. Restaurant /bar on water. Breakfast at resturant, 2 pools x clean bath and wash room.
3 hour to Brownsville, OK to see once in my opinion
Lots of bike riding along Fulton/ Rockport beach Rd
1 hour across ferry to Port Aransas, 20 miles of beach riding etc.
Kayak, canoeing galore
About a 3 hour ride to Progresso Mexico, need passport, border town for dental, glasses, botox, cheap medicines etc.
A local privatebus service runs from Rockport used to be about $40 return
