ronfisherman pretty much nailed it. You will get a lot better results with Eternabond if the area is cleaned, and one makes sure to use a roller (not hand/palm pressure) to ensure that heavy pressure is placed on every square inch of the tape so the microsealant activates properly. Eternaprime helps in this department as well.
One thing I'd add... I'd consider EternaCaulk, or a clear non-silicon caulk for the edges of the tape. This is mainly for aesthetics to keep the edges from getting dirty from road grime, but it is another pre-barrier against water intrusion.
