When traveling on interstates I look for truck stops Fj's etc. on secondary roads I look for stations that are parallel to the roads if the cars at the pumps are pointing in the same direction that I am I pull in. For pumps that are perpendicular to the road I will go to the end pumps. If you plan your route with Google maps your can zoom in to look at the stations that have photos.
