The "problem years" are post EGR and pre-DEF. That would be 2008-2010 or so depending on whether the manufacturer pre-bought chassis in anticipation of problems. So if the engine doesn't have an EGR valve or if it does and uses DEF to scrub the soot, you should have many trouble free miles. Search for a recent discussion on DEF for all the info.

This is good advise and what drove our decision to get a Safari. We also looked at Beavers, but Travel Supremes were out of our budget as was Foretravel.
