In my estimation, it's futile to keep toying with the Norcold refrigerator. The "fix" for fires is only activated when it senses an actual fire and does not prevent fires from occurring. It shuts down the unit only after a fire is detected!! I had it done to my Norcold as soon as I found out about it but then I realized that I had to keep my unit constantly on 9 to keep it cool at best.
I looked into the Amish unit and bought it immediately. What a difference. I am not trained in cooling units but it went in without a hitch and I did it by myself except for help putting the completed unit back into the opening. It's considerably heavier and MUCH MUCH better constructed than the Norcold. Now I keep it between 4 and 6 and it stays around 37 to 40 degrees.
Before I did the replacement I wasted $150.00 by having a Tech come to look at it BUT in his defense, he did find that the fans were hooked up ( wired )wrong. The 12v fan will NOT reverse if the wires are connected incorrectly and they will NOT work AT ALL in that configuration. As soon as he reversed the wires, the fans came on. Could it be that someone at the factory has been "sabotaging" the installation?
