First ever Slideouts?

Going through some old photos of Motorhomes in Australia. A few now claim they were the first to build one here, earliest date is roughly 1922-1924?
Illustration below shows one built on a BEAN a British make that disappeared in the early 1930's. They made trucks and cars. Claim to fame was one of it's cars drove across Australia, not an easy task in the early 1930's. Do not know if the body is Australian. As Slideouts and pop tops still do not exist on Brirish vehicles. This was built approx 1925

  • First ever Commercial Motorhome was the Bean in 1927. There were ones produced as non commercial ventures before this

As well there was a contest to make a " Caravan" out of the Chevrolet 1 Ton Chassis. They seemed to be termed Caravans or Automotive Caravans

  • That is great picture. Pretty darn ingenious stuff for 1925. I wonder what the OCCC was for that baby?
