Use a quality fire break material behind the stove in any case... for flareups. I only use an electric pan, but have both a fire extinguisher and a capped container of baking soda for putting out fires.. not to mention the glass cover for the pan. And that is the nice thing about movable cooking items, it can be taken outside, set on a picnic table and used out there. A nice propane 2 burner Coleman stove can sit on top of the counter, be pulled out when used and pushed back out of the way when not in use.
