I stand corrected. If they've gone to a quieter, slower motor & fans, it's probably a noticable improvement. I may be wrong about the 'Q' in the model designation on the old one. Anybody know of a B using the new one now? I'd sure like to hear one run, and maybe take my cheap sound meter along.
I spent a fair amount with mine checking where the noise comes from on mine. Most of it is from the front, as expected from a direct discharge unit. So motor speed is likely a major factor in noise.
BTW, I've used some 1" rigid fiberglass insulation and furnace tape to make a 3-sided baffled 'hood' for mine. Temporary, and only set up at might. It's about 5" deep on the top & side toward the bunk, smaller at the rear. it makes a lot of difference, cutting the noise by nearly 1/2. But it's still too loud when sleeping. I may make a more permanent something similar next winter if all else fails.
