First time installing cover

We bought a cover for our class A and this will be the first time putting the cover on. I've read directions and watched Utube video and there seems to be 2 ways. 1) haul cover up to roof, unroll/unfol,d being careful not to fall off the roof. 2)Unroll cover on the ground and take front up the ladder to front then, unfold over sides. Is one way better than the other? Any helpful suggestions are much appreciated.

  • Yesterday I helped a seasonal neighbor at the park we're currently in put his cover on for the winter. He usually hires a kid to help him, but when I showed him the method I posted above, with no real heavy lifting involved, he was amazed at how easy it was compared to getting the whole thing up the ladder first. I did the front half to show him how it worked, and then he did the rest. Even with taking time to tell him what I was going to do the whole process took a bit less than 30 minutes. Well, maybe a little more than that, since I left before he finished tightening all the tie down straps under the coach.
  • Im getting ready to do mine. The cover is going to be a little bigger.
  • Wow, I wonder how many folks on this wonderful Planet of ours can even conceive of a similar situation for their RV and RV their cover.
  • Here's what I did....since my motor home was parked at the same spot at the house, I bought a plastic yard bin from Home Depot. The type with a flip up lid that holds small garden tools. Since I had a wrought iron fence directly behind the coach, I mounted the bin atop the fence, putting the top of the bin at the same height as the top of the RV. After doing the initial install of the cover, I would remove it by pulling up the sides and stacking the cover down the center of the coach. I would drag the rear end into the bin and just keep shoving it in until the cover was completely inside the bin and close the lid. No more dragging it up the ladder, plus it was stored away from the weather when not in use.
  • For me (me alone!) it involved taking the entire unit up on the roof and spreading it out as necessary. A good ladder (not that dangerous thing on the back) made it a fairly easy project.
  • When removing mine I pull up the sides from the roof and roll the front towards the back. Putting it on, just roll it out from the back to the front, and the sides and front drop over.
The hardest part is getting it up there. I use a ladder and some help to lift the cover up.
  • After you deal with your cover a few times maybe a Sunshield tarp over the roof would be more appealing. Search this Forum for my posts on this subject.

Yep, the best cover is, good weather. Which I can't do. :M
  • Back when I covered our coach, I unrolled it on the ground along side of the coach and tied a rope to the front corner opposite from the side it was laying on. Then I would toss the rope up on the roof and climb up the ladder at the rear. Pulling on the rope, I would pull the cover up and over the front, and then work my way back to the rear, pulling the rest of the cover up as I went, dropping the rear in place as I climbed down the ladder. I found that minimized the weight I had to deal with at any point. On the ground, I just pulled on the hems as needed to square everything up, and then secured the straps under the coach and snugged the ends with the supplied ropes. Now I just head the coach south for a few months in the winter... ;)
  • I unroll the cover, stack it on the ground with the back on the bottom.
Climb the ladder and pull cover up and to the front of the RV.

Center it and drop the sides, climb down, adjust from the ground and tie the cover down.

It takes me about 30-35 minutes if I'm doing it myself. It's a little quicker and easier if you have help.

Don't be in a hurry and, be careful. (Very careful)
