Something about the angle of that pic makes the cabover look like it is sticking waaaay out there.
I find it interesting, looking at these pics. I'm in the middle of some restoration as well, but I have angle iron running down each side of mine supporting the frame the floor sits on. On these pics it appears to be relying on the strength of the wood frame. Did you remove anything similar or was it all built up of wood?
