This is true, but if you adjust for it, which I believe Malcolm is doing, it should work out fine.
There are lots of new construction homes that are built with 2X6 studs, to get the extra insulation, and the windows are just boxed in. Same with a concrete block home. I don't think it's out of line to try and get the extra wall thickness (strength) and additional insulation, if it's taken into account during the building process.
Malcolm: If you keep the outside dimensions the same as original (with exception of the over cab section) you shouldn't have to worry about the outside sheetmetal fitting.
