We drove I-75 from south of Naples, FL, today, to just over the border into GA, and observed something on the order of 12, or so, trailers on the side of the road, the owner's changing out flat tires. There were multiple 5th wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers, and one toad. We've never seen so many folks in bad situations, some quite dangerous looking. The worst was a 5th wheel pulled off onto the grassy shoulder of an overpass in quite a precarious position, tilting sideways, 'over the edge', looking like it might tip over. Fortunately, none of the tires had caught fire!Anyway, if you're traveling that way, there are a lot of construction sites that we suspect might be responsible, so be alert.

What do you think it would have been from the construction site? Why wouldn't there have been regular vehicles in the same situation ???

Very interesting.On March 26 we drove 260 miles on I-75 from Port Charlotte to I-10. I'm not sure we even saw one trailer or vehicle in that stretch with flat tires. I'd be curious to know what the causes were for the flats. Aged-out tires, under inflation, over inflation, worn out tires, road hazards (nails)?We were traveling very early morning when the temps were low and I'm wondering if you were traveling during the heat of the day. And I know it was hot down there today.Seeing as how it was only RV's that you saw (at least that's all you mentioned, besides the toad) I'm wondering if it wasn't due to excessive heat conditions on cheap, aged-out, or under inflated tires. We had some friends who had a blowout on their fifth wheel last Saturday near Tampa on I-75. It was due to running on 9 year old tires.If it was due to construction debris you should have seen all types of vehicles with flats. I didn't notice any rough road conditions near construction sites which would have caused issues.

Well I left Saturday.Big mistake!Took me 8 hours to get out of fla.Usually takes about 5.Georgia was a mess too.Counted 6 rv,s with flats.Four fifth wheels and two trailers.

The most common reason I've witnessed is roofing companies hauling old roofing material including lots or roofing nails in pickup and larger open truck with just wood or metal staves on sides.
In the nineteen eighties nails were a daily obstacle in the town to the east of us on one road. The station on a corner was busy all day repairing tires. Roofing companies were hauling old roofs down the road.
Around here we have a commercial hauling operation hauling scrap metal from commercial fabricators. Junk comes off right on the curve into our driveway.
Large pieces from molds and even old stainless saw blades.
I sweep the end of the drive often.

I drove I75 from Port Charlotte to the I4 east ramp yesterday between 8-1030am. I found the usual workday traffic at that time. Was really slow around Sarasota and Tampa. On the way home south I saw the I75 north lanes were very backed up north of Sarasota. The weekend should be better?

That deal in Atlanta is a real mess. Looks like they are going to have to replace the bridge on I-85.

I always try to leave on a Sunday morning when we can as the traffic volumes are light. We left early last Sunday morning and it was an easy drive all the way up I-75.
This weekend will be an exception as it's the beginning of the month and the end of the core three-month snowbird season. The entire state is emptying out of snowbirds and the roads will be busy. I would never leave Florida on April 1 or 2.

Be aware of the present issues with I-85 in Atlanta if you go that route.
