Floor Covering

Writing this for the 2nd time. Intalled Allure traffic master from HD I my 98 Itasca class A moho. Laid 3/8 ply over old flooring for a smooth clean surface. don't use to long of screws or you will hit the water pipes under the floor. I used vinyl wood planks with the exposed sticky strip on the top and side.

With in 6 months the edges began cupping/curling/lifting. At the end of 2 years we could no longer walk on it with bare feet and I had to replace it. HD was no help with any warranty.

I used a marble looking groutable vinyl self stick tile from HD. They have rounded edges so they look like real marble tile. As they shrink they seem to look more real. Used acrylic floor wax to prevent the tile from lifting from spilled water. Wife and I both like they way they look and feel on bare feet. Several of our friends thought they were real tile.

For the front area, sometimes called the cab area or step up area, I striped the carpet from the steel, removed all the glue then screwed down 3/8" ply. Installed carpet pad and cut pile carpet with an air stapler. I used 3M 90 high temp spray glue to install carpet on the engine cover.(dog house) After 18 months both tile and carpet still look brand new. Made my own oak trim for the stair well trim. The sound damping from the plywood and carpet pad is amazing. Had to pull the seats but couldn't pull the seat bases so I had to work around them. You must clean all the glue off the dog house, but don't need to clean it off the steel, just lay the ply right over it.

I used a very thin coat of color caulking where tile flooring and walls meet again to prevent water from getting underneath. I think quarter round or coving looks bad in a coach.

If you dealing with slides be sure you know how much clearance you have for your flooring, it is critical. My good friend installed some very expensive bamboo flooring in his $200k coach. When he brought the slides in, all the flooring was damaged and he had to completely redo the entire coach floor.

Using carpet squares ,Be careful if you have slides if you are not fastening them down good.Can bunch up and get caught under the slides.You can use a pressure sensitive glue and use the flat side of a trowel.Be enough to hold in place and not have a issue.
I installed thousands of these.And will hold up well

You can use a reciprocating saw with a metal blade. No sparks.

Well, the boxes of FLOR carpet squares arrived today, so now comes the task of installation. We still have a bit more preparation to do to get the subflooring ready but we're excited to be at this stage. I do have a question for anyone who might have done this before....what's the best method to cut stud bolts (former seatbelt frame studs) even with the wood floor without using a grinder which generates lots of sparks and heat against a wood floor?

Just completed the re-installation of Allure vinyl flooring. Mine was damaged by a screw and the polyurethane glide under the slide. I made a carpet glide from roof flashing with carpet direct glued to the flashing and then riveted that to an aluminum angle. I put the carpet under the polyurethane glide and secured it with the angle to the slide so the entire slide is riding on carpet. No more scratches!

Spent the day yesterday ripping out carpet in the coach....gotta say, it's a bit more of a job that I expected. First, removal of all the furniture....dinette/bench seat set, driver's and passenger's seats, sofa, recliner.....THEN, we got started on removing the nasty carpet and padding. Funny, when we bought the coach we thought the carpet was beige...turns out it was gray and had faded and stained to the level of looking like it used to be beige. Still had some damp sub-flooring in the drier's and passenger's foot wells even after running a fan in there for the last 2 weeks, so after a clorox/water spray to kill any mold that may have begun, the fan will blow continuously for the next 3 weeks before the flooring installer comes back. We also are thinking about leaving the dinette set out. We never use it for anything except to collect "stuff." Plus, with it gone, the den area now feels like a dance floor! More space and less overall weight...that seatbelt frame under the rear bench seat weighs 60lbs or better by itself....yeah, I think it'll NOT be reinstalled.

Anywho..... we think we've decided on floating carpet squares for the majority of the coach instead of hard surface. It's lighter and easier to replace if/when one of the tiles gets stained or damaged. In the driver's area we are thinking of something like the rubber coin flooring you see in enclosed trailers. Thinking that if we have another leak around the windows up there that'll keep the water from getting down to the wood sub-floor.

If I get time, I'll take some pictures and share the progress of the reno.....

After ripping out the carpet in our 2001 Monaco Diplomat I replaced with cork. Easy to clean, warm to walk on quiet, and many colors to choose from. Floated, but installed tight to walls etc. No problems with expansion/contraction and we live in the Pacific NW. Only wish I had ripped out the tile in galley and bath and done it from front to back.

According to the Allure installation manual, it says NOT to use it in campers because of fluctuating temperatures. Have you had or noticed any buckling or other problems at all? I like the idea of it and it seems easy enough to install, but I'm concerned that it might not like cold, then hot, then cold, then hot as it will get when sitting in my driveway and not on a camping trip.
